Don’t forget to create a scarecrow outside your home in the two weeks leading up to Sibford Applefest on Sunday 6th October. Let your imagination run riot to illustrate the theme Historical Events – it could be a famous historical figure or the Battle of Hastings! Big or small, just have fun.
Stick it in your front garden for all to see from now and see if yours is chosen to get a prize. Register for the competition with Jo at joanneconnor
Judging takes place on Saturday 5th October 2024.
It won’t affect your prize-winning chances, but we encourage you to join many others and post a photo of your scarecrow on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/sibford_scarecrowtrail

The Zero Carbon Oxfordshire team is developing a climate engagement plan to support communities on their Net Zero and Climate Adaptation journey. They are speaking to as many people as possible to support this process, and would like to hear from you. If you can, please respond to the survey which you will find by following this link:
Climate Action Survey: Knowledge, Attitude and Practices
The survey takes only a few minutes to complete. It will ask you about your knowledge on the climate crisis and actions that you could take to reduce carbon and adapt. The team will use the information they get from this survey to help develop climate messages and an engagement plan.
The survey closes on Saturday 31st August.

A number of local parents have been working hard over the last year to secure a new school bus service between Sibford Gower and Chipping Norton Secondary School. We have received confirmation that Pulhams Coaches will provide this new service and we have managed to secure a number of seats on this new provision.
The new service will leave Sibford Gower (opposite the primary school), at 07:55 each day and return back to Sibford Gower at 15:59. There is a cost associated with this service, with a range of payment options available. At present (12/08), there are two seats left to purchase, so if there is anyone that would benefit from this service, please do pass on this message.

Ginny Bennett spent many hours over recent days preparing and planting two tubs of flowers outside the Village Hall entrance. Much to her distress she discovered this morning (Thursday 11 July) that, overnight, all 30 new plants had been removed. A couple of days earlier three sacks of compost purchased for the new tubs were stolen from the rear of the hall and had to be replaced. She writes: “It is sad to think that this has happened in our village. The Village Hall is a wonderful facility and we are trying to keep it nice.”
The Village Hall Trustees are taking this very seriously. They ask everyone to keep a lookout and report anything suspicious to the Village Hall Trustees. Our Village Hall is a marvellous community benefit used by a large number of people and organisations. It’s sad to think that we need to be vigilant to stop more damage to the hall and its fabric.
If you can supply any information relating to the thefts, or other vandalism in the neighbourhood of the Hall, please contact David Gill, Chair of the Trustees, at davidgill46
