Letters to the Editor - "Sydney 2000"
To the Editor:
Many readers must have wondered just WHO is this competent & modest gentleman who has been assigned the responsible task (and the privilege?) of creating the Olympic Equestrian Course in Australia.
Even this ‘non-horsey‘ reader found the article most interesting & feels that the writer’s identity should be revealed.
(name & address supplied)
Dear Editor
Once again Sibford Scene [actually ‘Sibford Scene Extra’ – Ed] has excelled itself with such an interesting article on Sydney 2000, but could we not have the name of this most diligent villager? We have Frank Lascelles as the Pageant Master, why not an Olympics Equestrian Course designer? Even if Sibford does not produce any rider of the Olympics standard.
With all good wishes
Norman Coxon

The omission of the name of Sibford‘s own Mike Etherington-Smith was purely accidental and we are more than pleased to rectify this slip.
Mike was selected by the Sydney Organising Committee for the Olympic Games for the job of Course Designer for the Three Day Event in 2000; he was chosen from three course designers, two British & one German, who had been nominated by the Federation Equestre International, the governing body of all equestrian sports worldwide.
Mike’s diary of his previous visit to Sydney in Nov/Dec 1996, leading to his being awarded the contract, was reported in Adrian Lamb’s first issue of Sibford Scene Extra in March 1997.
