Diary of Rev Edward Stevens

1887, June 6, Monday

Club Day. Report appended. Mr. Mann, Joseph Pettipher and a few others got up a cricket match and finished up with a dance in the “Quaker Mission Room” in the evening. None of them were at Church this morning except Louisa Mann.

I walked out at about 11 pm. everything was quiet, but dancing was going on at the Mission Room. I saw and spoke with Mrs. Enock at her gate where she was standing awaiting the return of her daughter and two little pupils from the dance! Quakers in Sibford are rather “going ahead” I think.
