Diary of Rev Edward Stevens

1886, November 2, Tuesday

Mild and rainy. I seem to have renewed my cold yesterday.

Miss Dix wrote in reply to my note saying she did not see her way to paying money owing to Hancox to the Charity though undoubtedly it had the first claim, as the creditors would probably combine to do something in the matter. She asked that it might be left in abeyance for the present.

1886, November 3, Wednesday

Mr Norris sent me cheque for £2.. 3. due from him to Elijah Hancox, on account of amount due from Hancox to Trustees of Fuel Land. I gave Mr Norris a written undertaking on part of Trustees to repay the amount to him on demand.

Went out this evening for a walk and made my cold worse.

1886, November 5, Friday

Very wet.

Wrote to Butler & Tanner accepting their estimate for printing and binding my “Teaching of the Prayer Book” on condition that they put it in hand at once and have it ready for publication at an early date. Binding to be at least equal to that of last edition of G.L.B. Standard iii.

Received from Spottiswoode & Co notice for new edition of G.L.B. Standard v.

1886, November 7, Sunday

Taught in Boys’ School this morning ; but did not attend choir practice this evening owing to my troublesome cough.
