Diary of Rev Edward Stevens

1879, November 4, Tuesday   a

Coal distribution commenced. Henry Bishop sent his boy to school. He spoke to me last night about doing so – asked whether the Trustees would let him come for less than 3d per week. I said I did not think they would.

I took scripture lesson this morning from 9 – 10.

Harry Shelswell brought his work to me at 12.

Drove Bell to Tysoe this afternoon.

Called on Hancox, stone mason and paid him £4 for stone to memory of late James Barnes the subscription list for which was as follows:-

1879, November 5, Wednesday

Took Religious Instruction in School from 9 – 10 this morning.

William Webb’s 2nd girl on going past pond to Joshua Messenger’s this morning was attacked by a gander which frightened her very much and caused a commotion, but did not injure her otherwise than by giving her a few bruises on the leg with his wings.

Called on Mrs Dix. Drove Bell and Rosa and Frank to Balscott and called on Mr Anderson the curate, not at home. Also to Wroxton and called on Mr Izatt, not at home. Also to Epwell and called on Mr Montagu not at home.
