The village pounds

In the past, both Sibford Gower and Sibford Ferris had a Pound where animals were held until they were moved on or, if they were stray, until their owners were identified. The Pound in Sibford Ferris was at the top of Mannings Hill, where Mannings Close is today. The exact site of the Gower’s Pound is less certain, but was definitely located in Pound Lane on the road leading north out of the village from the Main Street crossroads.
