It’s a rather small and blurry photo, but you may be able to see the relatively huge eyes of a new-born swift hatchling, just to the left of the remaining egg. Visit the Swifts 2024 page to see a video of it being fed.
Tim Huckvale writes: Calling local swift enthusiasts! I recommend listening to this year’s WSD address by Dr Jane Goodall, enthusiastic patron of World Swift Day. It may give you new insights on reasons for the decline in swift numbers:
Younger folk may enjoy this reading of the book Screamer the Swift, which follows the journey of “Screamer”, a swift chick, from his nest to adulthood:
Churchwarden Barbara Foster writes: THANK YOU on behalf of Aline and Christian Aid, Together the Sibfords raised £599, almost double last year’s total.

Oxfordshire County Council’s Highways Department are responsible for maintaining the Highway which includes roads, adjacent footpaths, and verges. These issues should usually be reported via fixmystreet.com but we understand that some parishioners have reported issues on there but do not feel they are getting any help from Highways. The Parish Council has been offered a meeting in the village with the new Highways Parish Council Liaison representative and we feel this would be a good opportunity to take the Highways representative around the village to show them the issues that are of concern to parishioners. If you have an issue that you would like us to raise with Highways when they visit the village please e-mail details of your concerns to the Parish Council Chairman, Cllr Jackie Noquet, before 7th June on Cllr.Jackie.Noquet
Sue Cook writes: Dear friends and neighbours – Ian (Sharp) has flatteringly been requested to give a talk at Sibford Village Hall to talk about the roller coaster fun and games involved in filming the Bond movie Goldeneye in 1995. Ian was the ‘Action Director’, in charge of the second unit under the principal director Martin Campbell.
With a team of intrepid stunt actors alongside Pierce Brosnan, Ian was responsible for creating and directing such scenes as the spectacular tank chase through St Petersburg, the death-defying jump from the top of the dam at the beginning of the movie, the small aircraft’s vertical flight up the side a ravine… and the destruction of a Ferrari by an Aston Martin (which it was decided should not make the final cut!). These were real stunts; acts of courage, in the exciting days before computer generated images came along to make life a lot safer and a lot less dare-devil.
He’ll be showing the movie first and then will be regaling us with anecdotes and answering questions from the audience. There will be wine and soft drinks generously provided by the magnificent Prof John Wass. So come along for a glass or two at 6.30pm in preparation for the screening start at 7.00pm. It promises to be a lively and jolly evening, so I do hope you’ll be able to be there.
That’s Wednesday, 29th May. Spread the word. All are welcome; entrance is free. We’ll look forward to seeing you.
Warmest regards,
Sue Cook

Chris Pennell writes: I would like to thank John Wass for organising such a valuable and informative CPR training session this week (30 April), and also our Community Responders Kelly & James for volunteering their time and expertise.
I would strongly encourage every member of our community to attend one of these events. In the event of a cardiac arrest the first 10 minutes are critical to survival, so although responders will arrive as soon as they can, it might be up to you to save the life of your loved one, friend, colleague, or fellow villager. For the sake of a couple of hours training wouldn’t you want to know how?
These events are very informal, you don’t need to book, no details are taken, and there is no ongoing responsibility. Please do attend one if you are able.
