Privacy Policy

This privacy policy sets out how we use and protect information that you give us when you use this website.

Personal information

If you subscribe to one of our newsletters we will store your name and email address – see Our service partners below.

Otherwise the only information we collect about you personally is what may be sent to us via the Contact form or email by you or someone else. We will only use this information to satisfy the specific request. Unless you request otherwise, we may pass the information on to someone in the Sibfords who we think is better placed to answer a query, but we are not responsible for their actions. We may retain personal information for up to one year to help with any follow-through on the request.

Material sent to us for publishing on the website, such as details of a forthcoming event, will typically contain personal  contact details. We assume that the sender has already obtained the permission of the people identified. However, we will remove such information promptly upon request. Since event information is usually intended for a very local audience, we recommend that surnames be omitted.

Our service partners

We use the MailPoet Sending Service to deliver emails to our newsletter subscribers.

The email address you provide for news feeds is stored securely on this website. We will not use it for any other purpose nor disclose it to anyone other than MailPoet. Their privacy policy is not very clear – when it refers to “users” it means the owners of websites, not the recipients of emails – but it does say that “Data at MailPoet is not shared or sold with any third party.”

Every newsletter email contains an Unsubscribe link so that you can stop any further emails.

We use Google Custom Search to provide our Advanced search facility because it indexes parts of the site that the basic WordPress search does not reach, such as pdf attachments and scanned images of text. Like the standard Google search engine, it will attempt to record your searches and track the websites you visit as a result.

Cookies

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your computer or mobile phone when you browse websites. For ordinary users, the only cookie we employ is set when you Enable bookmarks for Rev Edward Stevens diary. We also set necessary cookies for logged-in users, which only applies to those few people who help keep the site up to date.

Anonymous visitor statistics

Like most websites, we compile visitor statistics such as how many times our website is visited, what types of technology are used to visit it (e.g. Mac or Windows, desktop or smartphone, Chrome or Firefox), how long visitors spend on the site, what pages and what search terms are most popular, etc. This helps us to continuously improve the website. We collect this data without making use of cookies or any other tracking technology; the data is anonymised, making it impossible for us to derive any personal information.

Third party cookies

A “third-party” cookie is one which is set by a website other than the one you are currently viewing. This usually occurs when a website makes use of a service provided by another website, such as a social media feed or playing a video.

Our Advanced search facility employs Google Custom Search, which will set cookies when used.

Turning Cookies Off

Turning off cookies altogether will limit what you can do on many websites. However, if your main concern is to stop your website usage being monitored by advertisers and other third parties, there are some browser settings that may help. The Information Commissioner offers some guidance.

Links to other websites

This website contains links to other websites of interest, indicated by the icon . When you click on one of these links to leave our site, you should note that we do not have any control over the destination website. You should exercise caution and review the privacy or cookie policy of the website in question.

Controlling your personal information

We will not sell, distribute or lease your personal information to third parties unless we have your permission or are required by law to do so.

You may request details of personal information which we hold about you by contacting us. Information will usually be provided free of charge unless we consider the request unfounded, excessive or repetitive in which case there will be a small charge for each request.

If you believe that any information we are holding about you is incorrect or incomplete, please contact us as soon as possible. We will promptly correct any information found to be incorrect.
