Harry Williams / Lambs Pool Nature reserve

This Five Acre reserve was given to the Berks. Bucks & Oxon Naturalist Trust by Mr & Mrs J.A. Lamb of Sibford Ferris. It is also named in memory of Harry Williams who was its manager until his death in 1987.

Since great emphasis is now being put on wetland conservation by all conservation societies, not only in this country, but in Europe also, such a reserve as this one is of great importance.

As well as the preservation of areas where wildlife is known to be threatened, the trust also liaises with farmers and landowners to encourage and advise them in nature conservation on their own land. It also, through the “Watch” Groups instructs and encourages children in the protection and preservation of wildlife.

On May 12th the foxholes reserve near Kingham holds its open day. This is an excellent opportunity to see at first hand the work of the Trust on 100 acre woodland reserve. Guided walks, teas and other attractions for children provide an excellent outing for the family. On 22nd June Mr & Mrs Henbrey of Virginia Cottage are kindly holding a coffee morning. For details of these events or of BBONT itself please contact the manager of Lambs Pool Reserve Bill Crabtree, or the Warden Tony Skeath.

Sibford Ferris Parish Council

Dear Barry,

The members of the Parish Council have asked that their concern be expressed in the next copy of the Scene about the parking in the main street at the Ferris. This is particularly worrying around the area of the telephone box which quite often has cars on both sides of the road. On several occasions large vehicles have found difficulty in getting through, and there could be serious delays if any of the emergency services were impeded in this way. It would obviously be a great help if those residents with off street parking could make regular use of it and for others to be aware of the difficulties they may be causing. It has also been noticed that agricultural vehicles have been making a mess of the verges in the village, and the Council would appreciate care on the part of these drivers also.

Best Wishes,
Pat Romans, Clerk to S.F.P.C.
