(March 1999) Radon in Housing

Cherwell District Council has just launched a Government funded project to raise awareness to the health risks of radon gas and encourage householders, where appropriate, to carry out remedial work. The Council is urging local residents to find out more about the problem as one in six of the houses in the northern part of the Cherwell District are likely to have high levels radon gas within them and radon accounts for one in twenty cases of lung cancer.

The main campaign will feature a “radon road show” in March when experts from the National Radiological Protection Board and the Building Research Establishment will join with Council officers to provide free, confidential advice.
