Diary of Rev Edward Stevens

1894, August 9, Thursday 

Received notice from Department of Art, South Kensington of names of boys who passed “as outsider” in drawing at Friends’ School in May last. Also receipt for Harry’s Policy from “Clergy Mutual”.

Funeral of late Mrs Routh. First part to end of lesson with a hymn and then “Nunc Dimittis” in Church which was full of people. The committal was at the Quakers’ cemetery. Richard Lamb made an oration and was followed by Wilkes Brown, of the Cake Shop, Parsons’ Street, Banbury. Almost all the village was there, also Garrard from Brailes and Burlingham from Evesham.

1894, August 10, Friday 

Showery. Took choir to Edgehill Round House to tea. Hired Webb’s wagonette and Reuben Sabin’s cart, both covered, for the children. Lewis Poulton lent his horse and cart for his man Cadd to drive himself, George Poulton, Henry Hone and three or four boys.

The following are the names:

Visitors: Mrs Page, Mrs Kerr, her child. Miss S. Dix, Miss E. Thame, Miss Solomon.

My own Party: Mrs Stevens, Miss R. Stevens, Miss Sottick, Frank Stevens, Self.

All the above paid for themselves. Those below were paid for out of fund.
