1893, June 7, Wednesday
Miss Dix sent a telegram to the Queen at Balmoral on the occasion of her birthday last week. It is perhaps worthy of record that the message was sent from Swalcliffe Office at 7 pm. The reply was dispatched from Balmoral at 5 minutes past eight the same evening. The message was as follows: “May 24th. 1893. The widows of Sibford most earnestly and loyally pray that your Majesty may enjoy very many happy and prosperous returns of your birthday.”
Reply: “O.H.M.S. Balmoral Office. The Queen thanks the widows of Sibford for their kind telegram.”
