Rev Parkes Willy, Curate of Epwell, called this afternoon to tell me he was trying to exchange his Living in Northumberland for one in Warwickshire, the incumbent of which is Rev A. J. Humphries. He asked me whether he might refer to me. I replied that he might and that I would “say what I could for him”.
Rain all day. Went for a walk this evening. Met Mr Oddie who told me that my tenant George Harris was said to have boasted se solere concumbere cum Matilda, filia Marci Barnorum, who is only about 15 years of age. I said I would endeavour to see him on the subject, as well as the girl and her father.

The Twelfth Annual Show
Will be held in a FIELD NEAR THE CHURCH, SIBFORD GOWER

On Tuesday, September 14, 1886.
The Flower Show Prizes will be given away in the afternoon by Mrs. Stevens.
THE SIBFORD BRASS BAND
Will play for DANCING during the Afternoon.
RACING & OTHER CONTESTS
Will be held, for which Prizes will be given. Among the Events will be the following Stone-Picking Race, 100 Yards. Hurdle-Setting Competition. Obstacle Race. Three-Legged Race, for Boys. 100 Yards’ Flat Race, for Women ; &c., &c.
Prizes will be given by Miss Norris for COTTAGE WALLS in Classes A and B. Entries to close Sept. 7.
Refreshments will be provided by the Sibford Temperance Society.
DANCING from 7 till 10 p.m., Tickets, 1s. each.
ADMISSION TO THE SHOW—From 2 o’clock to 3.30 p.m., 1s.; after, 6d.
Entries for the Flower Show close on Friday, Sept. 10th.

Dr Milburn and Oscar Shelswell called this morning.
Visited William Poulton this morning and gave him order for new desk and form for school at 5/4 per foot.
Met John Holtom and the boy Daniel Alcock. The man said Miss Capper was trying to get the boy inro some school in London – Dr Barnardo’s, I am told. I gave both of them good advice.
A severe thunderstorm this morning, recurred in afternoon with very heavy rain which flooded yard and cottage occupied by my tenant G. Harris. I went down to see it at his request.
