Diary of Rev Edward Stevens

1886, August 3, Tuesday

Worthy Corle, the late Canon Payne’s indoors servant came and asked me if I could take funeral at Swalcliffe at 3 pm on Wednesday.

I drove Bell to Thenford to luncheon with Montagu. The weather was charming, and we had a delightful drive which we greatly enjoyed. In the afternoon Mr Montagu took us over his church etc. We left for home about 6 o’clock.

Received a note from Miss A Norris about the funeral of Patience Wells at Swalcliffe tomorrow afternoon.
