Diary of Rev Edward Stevens

1886, March 11, Thursday

David Hone junior called and said he would like some land in the Reserved Furze Field. I told him he was too late. I offered it to him and others at the meeting in the School room a week or two ago and no one would have anything to do with it. I told Jesse Bishop the next day that he might make use of it for the present and I could not take it away from him now.

1886, March 12, Friday

Visited Misses Dix and Thomas Meadows.

W. Lamb Assistant overseer called about Vestry Meeting. I said he might have the School room for Friday next.

1886, March 15, Monday

Eli Webb of Sibford Ferris called and asked me whether he might succeed to John Reason’s allotment. The latter was unable to work on it any longer and wished to give it up. I said I would see John Reason and let Eli Webb know. I afterwards saw John Reason who said he was too feeble to do the work on it, and I therefore called on Eli Webb and told him he might have it at once.

1886, March 16, Tuesday

Slight fall of snow.

A Committee Meeting of the Art School at Sibford Ferris was held at 10 am to meet Mr Redgrave, the Inspector. Dr Routh, Mr Woolgrove and Mr Oddie were there – though the latter did not remain during business. The chief object of the meeting was to enable the Inspector to tell the Committee what their duties were, and to mark the Roll showing the names of those for whom the Art Master might claim grant for teaching, and whom not.
