Diary of Rev Edward Stevens

1878, May 24, Friday

Visited the school. Mr. Elley told me that Geydon whom the Trustees set down at 3d. per week for each of his children at School – had refused to pay more than 1d. and had therefore not sent them to school for sometime.   He had been summoned before the Attendance Committee at Banbury and ordered to send his children to school. He has sent them to Ann Fox’s Dame School, held in a cottage kitchen. Frederick Inns has not sent his child to school yet.
