1874, August 23, Sunday 

Mr Mountain and I called on Charles Eve and Shrapnell. I preached at St John’s East Dulwich in morning and read prayers in evening. Mr Morse, the vicar, came to supper.

1874, August 24, Monday

Returned to Oxford. Mr John Christian Fraser came as pupil to prepare for Christ Church, Oxon. Terms 150 guineas.

1874, August 30, Sunday

Mr Lee away from Sandford. I preached in morning. Wingate walked from Horspath and preached in afternoon. I drove him back to Horspath and preached for him in the evening.

Took leave of Mr and Mrs Wingate, as they return to Walford tomorrow.

1874, September 4, Friday

The College having renewed the offer of Sibford Vicarage, Hole and I went over to see it. Saw Miss Sarah Dix in the church.

1874, September 12, Saturday

Harry’s birthday – age 15. Mr and Mrs F A Wilson came to tea. Also their two boys and Mr and Miss Owen Jones. Fraser rode to Mongewell this afternoon.

1874, September 23, Wednesday

Called on Taylor Taswell this evening. Received from J M Fraser Esq cheque for £60.5 for J Fraser’s board, lodging and tuition to Christmas.

1874, September 25, Friday

Left Ryde by steamer. Took Bell and Rosa to Southampton where we went on board the “Asiatic” to bid Mr and Mrs Hole and family farewell on their departure for Cape Town. We spent the afternoon with them on board, and steamed down Southampton water with them. We returned by mail boat and lost sight of them about 3.30 pm. Bell and Rosa returned to Ryde. I returned to Oxford.
