Sick visiting at Sandford. Rev John Young accompanied me.
Took cab to Sandford. Walking makes me very hot and I take cold in the church.
Evening service at Sandford.
Bell, Rosa and Harry went to London to spend Christmas with the Mountains.
Went to London by 8.30pm train. Joined Bell etc at the Mountains’.
Christmas Day. Attended services at St John’s East Dulwich with the Mountains and my own family.
Rain. Mountain and I called on Charles Eve. Miss Carr (Mountain’s cousin) and Mr Lewin, her “young man” came to dinner.
Read prayers, morning and evening, at St John’s East Dulwich for Mr Elliot the Vicar. Took children etc to Drury Lane pantomime this afternoon. Supped with Mr Elliot and his choir.
Took children to Crystal Palace pantomime.
Went to Stockwell and breakfasted with J. Brown. Returned to Oxford.
Cab to Sandford. Walked back. Unwell: could not accept Mr Lee’s invitation to dine.
Went to Ipswich to marry my cousin Emma Howe to Lieutenant J. Hales Dutton, R.N. Arrived at 2.20pm. Called on Mr Abbott, Mrs Wells, Rev A. Synge (Rector of St Peter’s) and Mrs Cooper. The two latter were not at home.
Married Emma Louise Howe to Lieutenant Dutton, at St Peter’s Church. Rev Alexander H. Synge. the Rector, assisted.
Called on Aunt Cooper with Aunt Emma. Uncle J. P. Howe and I took supper at C. Wood’s who married my cousin Kate Cooper.
Returned to Oxford.
Drove to Sandford in cab. Dined with Mr Lee at New College in evening.
Busy with proof of U.K.S. Standards iii Boys!
Went to Sandford by rail to Littlemore. Walked back.
Mr and Mrs Wilson, Charles Gibson, Rev John Young and Miss Wilson came to tea.
Drove to Sandford, cab. Dined with Mr Lee at New College.
Spent evening at Mrs Gibson’s, next door.
Went to Sandford. Spent evening at Rev F. A. Wilson’s.
Cab to Sandford. Mr Lee and I lunched with Mr John Martin, one of the churchwardens. Mr Lee and I happened to preach from same text. He in morning, I in afternoon.
Called on Mr Daniel and Mr Pottinger, tutors of Worcester College, to tell them that my work with U.K.S. would not allow me to read for honours in the History School.
Attended Ruridecanal Chapter at Cuddesdon Theological College. Took tea at Wheatley with Rev Mr Ellow, the Rector. Borrowed the Deanery magic lantern.
Walked to Sandford with Mr Lee. Examined schoolchildren for prizes. Mr Lee and I dined at the King’s Arms Hotel, Sandford. There was a Magic Lantern Exhibition in the schoolroom this evening by a travelling exhibitor. Mr Lee and I walked home together.
Overend paid me the £10 he had borrowed.
Cab to Sandford. Dined with Mr Lee at New College in the evening.
Went to Sandford.
