An Exhibition of Village Life in Sibford, 1914 -1918
November 11th in Sibford Village Hall 12 noon – 5pm
100 Years Ago. . .
- Diamond cutters and polishers were in Sibford
- Conscription affected Sibfords’ Cricket Club
- Two Belgian scholars were welcomed to Sibford Gower Primary School
- Carriers Cart was the only transport from Sibford to Banbury
- Free Bovril and soup were available at the Co-op in Sibford for residents of the Gower and Burdrop
- Prizes for Scripture, Sewing and Agriculture were awarded by the Town Estate Charity to Sibford Gower Primary School children
- 91 left Sibford but only 81 returned
If you would like to find out more about these interesting facts and many more, come along to an exhibition about all aspects of village life in the Sibfords from 1914 to 1918. The exhibition will be open in the Small Village Hall from 12 noon to 5pm on Sunday 11th November.
If anyone has any commemorative china or glass from this wartime period and who would be willing to display it in the exhibition I would be delighted to hear from them.
‘Trench’ Soup (a hearty root vegetable soup) and homemade bread will be served in the main hall from 12.00 noon. Soup Ration tickets are now available at a cost of £1 per person and will need to be bought in advance to ensure we have enough soup for all who would like some. Tickets are available from Maureen Hicks or Clive Warner.
