(September 1989) The Caribbean Evening

In spite of the weather forecast which threatened rain for Saturday, July 22nd, it was in fact a lovely balmy evening. About 170 people gathered in the garden of The Manor at Sibford Gower to enjoy the music of Orchos Rios, a teenage steel band, who were marvellous.

The lovely weather encouraged many people to take advantage of’ the open air pool, especially the younger children, not to mention a few, including your correspondent, who were unceremoniously thrown into the pool, fully dressed. The watery high jinks were over-seen by a qualified life guard, to whom we extend our thanks for his vigilance.

Particular thanks are due to MIKE EDWARDS, who generously opened his garden for this event, which was organised by the North Oxon Conservative Association Sibfords and Epwell branch.

Sincere thanks go to Keith Hicks and David Soden who, ably assisted by Sibfords Super Cook Scouts, and all looking very smart, produced a super barbeque, no mean feat in view of the hot weather. A donation has been given to The 1st Sibfords Scout Troop. Thanks also to the many others who assisted in numerous ways, with the bar, salads, cleaning up etc. – necessary tasks which contributed to a most successful and enjoyable evening.

A future date for diaries – it is hoped to arrange a Victorian Evening at The Manor – on December 15th.
