Sibfords History Society – The Light of the World
Our speaker Lizzy Rowe’s subject is Keble College and The Light of the World by Holman Hunt.
Lizzy looks at the origins of Keble College and tells some of the fascinating stories about its early days, focusing in particular on The Light of the World, the famous painting by William Holman Hunt that hangs in its Chapel.
Lizzy Rowe is an art historian who studied at the Courtauld Institute in London before joining English Heritage as a guidebook editor. She currently lives in Oxford where she teaches Art History in primary schools, as well as giving guided tours and talks.
Starting at 7pm, a little earlier than usual, for the Society’s Annual General Meeting before the talk.
Doors open at 6.45pm. Free to paid-up members, visitors £5. Refreshments follow the talk.
