(September 1995) Honour awarded to Timothy Wimbush
Many congratulations to Father Timothy Wimbush on his appointment as an Honorary Canon of Christ Church Cathedral. This honour has been awarded to Tim for his many years of loyal and faithful service to the church in the Diocese of Oxford. He has been Parish Priest of the United Benefice of Sibford, Epwell, Swalcliffe and Tadmarton since 1976 and for 10 years has been Rural Dean of Deddington Deanery and its 26 parishes.
Tim’s musicianship is well known, having been organist at the Tadmarton services for many years and for the last nine years, since starting the United Benefice choir, he has been choirmaster, taking the Friday night choir practices with great enthusiasm. He has also recently joined the Oxfordshire Committee of the Royal School of Church Music.
As if these duties were not enough to keep him occupied, as well as being a devoted husband, father and grandfather, he has been a magistrate for some 6 years and an indefatigable cricketing umpire with a memory to rival Wisden itself. This year he is President of the Banbury XX Cricket Club.
Tim will be (literally) installed in his stall in Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford in an installation service in October. He remains as our Rector despite the grossly incorrect report made in a certain local paper that he is moving to Oxford. In the meantime, congratulations to Tim and to his great supporters, Erica, his sons and all the family.
